You and Your Child

If you have brought your child along to Mini soccer before you will have an idea of what to expect and what you will need. For new attendees, here are the basics:

Equipment

The weather is usually warm through the U9 soccer season, so bring a water bottle for your child. Cleats are nice but not essential, running shoes are fine. Shin pads are worth investing in, as the program is basically a lot of people learning to kick in a group. If you have a soccer ball of your own please write your name on it and bring it along. DRAMSA has lots of soccer balls but extras always help.

Parents

A parent or responsible adult for each child, has to be present for the duration of every practice. With a group of children under their care, the coaches cannot see to the ancillary needs of every child, such as toilet breaks. Please do not leave the playing field unless you arrange for another parent to mind your child.

Games are held on soccer pitches in Chalk River or at Grouse Park at the west end of Deep River. To find Grouse Park, from the highway follow Ridge road into town. The second turning on the left is Avon, which takes you past Morison School to Grouse Park.

Playing the Game

One of the beauties of soccer as a game is the lack of equipment needed in order to play. Kicking a ball about with your kids is fun, and with two sweaters marking goal posts, couldn't be easier. Encourage your child to kick the ball with the inside of the foot, run along kicking the ball keeping it close to them, and copy the drills which the coaches use at practices. If you want to play a game with a group of children and aren't sure of the basic rules see our resources page.
