Traditional Worship Service The traditional worship service is held each Sunday morning, year around, at 10:15. There are also extra services at Christmas and Easter. |
When you arrive on a Sunday morning, you will find that we
“Welcome In”; there is easy access for the handicapped, one
or two of the congregation welcome you at the door and the
ushers give you a church Bulletin containing the order of
service and various news announcements. The ushers also
have available large print music for the visually impaired.
You are in a building that is light, airy and peaceful - an
oasis of calm.
The service itself begins with a
Prelude on the organ and a welcome to worship, and usually
lasts for about an hour. Early in the service, the children
of the congregation are invited to the front of the church
to hear a story, related to the sermon topic and the
readings for that Sunday. Then we sing a children's song
and the younger ones may leave to go to Kids’ Church
downstairs. The older children often stay upstairs and help
with Bible readings and the taking of the offering. During
the rest of the service, we have more hymns, readings and
prayers and our minister’s (the Rev. Paul Evans) sermon for
the day. The hymns, readings and sermon are all reflections
on the same topic. An offering is taken and dedicated to
God's work. At the end of the service we have a
benediction, a chorale amen, and an organ postlude (during
which many in the congregation remain seated).
After the service most people stop for a coffee (and
sometimes cookies or cake) and a chance to visit
with the rest of the congregation. Every second
week, the choir sings a special anthem, in addition
to leading the singing of all the hymns, and
approximately every four to six weeks we have
Communion during the second half of the service.
