To keep abreast of the news within the DRUC, here’s a listing of notices and news, in chronological order. News & Notices - Feb 19 2008With 2008 coming into the picture, we've initiated the new year for the club. This is a quick note to advise you of a few activities coming your way this year. Activities We'll be organizing a pool session for our annual "splash party" for one evening in early March (before March Break). More info will follow, but the session will be a great opportunity to exercise your skills, blow some bubbles, and maybe play some games underwater. This will also be the time/place for people curious about Scuba to try out the sport in the shallow end of the pool under the care of our instructor. 2008 Membership We will be operating the club with a new format this year - as a dive association. Membership forms and membership dues are not needed, however liability waiver forms will be required and we'll be insisting on safe dive practices during any organized events. To cover the cost of liability insurance (previously funded by membership dues), we'll be making slight increases to the air fill charges. This should make up for most of the cost, and the new funding structure will hopefully encourage broader participation. AGM Our annual general meeting (AGM) will he held in late March. At that time, we'll make any necessary adjustments to the club executive and unveil the preliminary events schedule. Thanks to Michael, we'll be including Tobermory in the schedule, with a very strong interest being expressed. Training We'll be offering a Basic Scuba course again this year, starting in April and ending in June, as usual. Please pass any names of people possibly interested in certification to myself or Peter Angell. We'll be offering a Rescue Diver course as well, which is an excellent addition to basic or advanced training certification. More info on this course will follow, but based on a request from one diver, we're looking at initiating the course in March (classroom sessions). If you are interested in this course (I'd highly recommend it), please advise Peter Angell or myself as soon as possible. The training program is actually in operation right now with Brent working towards completing his Assistant Instructor certification, while I'm working at a Dive Master certification. As in previous years, we'll be encouraging divers to put their equipment through annual maintenance/inspection but offering a shuttle service to our preferred suppler, Watersports Scuba School & Supply in North Bay. Essentially, we'll notify you of the dates that we'll be sending the club-owned equipment to North Bay for servicing, and you'll be welcomed to include your tanks and regs and BCDs in the shuttling back and forth. In addition to the convenience aspect, our experience is that the servicing through Watersports is less expensive than service-providers in Ottawa.
