CJ Dixon

http://www.cjdixon.com/

CJ Dixon's mission is to make the highest quality and best sounding Celtic instruments in the world.  CJ Dixon personally hand crafts all instruments and every component that he sells.  All instruments start with raw materials which are then turned, formed, laminated etc. by CJ Dixon into high quality instruments.  Each instrument made is the result of meticulous laboring, inspecting, testing and a great love for the music and Celtic culture.  All instruments have a great balance of very high quality material/craftsmanship and wonderful tuning/tone.  All instruments bare the "CJ DIXON" name, something that Chris is very proud of and takes very seriously... as a result there is no quality compromise.  Only the very best will do.

Ann Chaplin

Ann Chaplin is a singer/songwriter from Deep River, Ontario http://radio3.cbc.ca/nmc/artist.aspx?name=Ann-Chaplin
Ann Chaplin
Genres: Folk, Pop Singer Songwriter
Ann Chaplin is a singer/songwriter from Deep River, Ontario. She easily captivates her audiences with her melodious, touching songs and striking voice. A truly unique and talented artist, Ann is wasting no time bringing folk back into the mainstream. Ann performed her first song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow onstage when she was 5 years old, and was composing little songs on the piano since she was old enough to reach the keys. Her family fondly remembers her first talent show in which she played two recorders at the same time, and harmonized with them. She immediately fell in love with guitar when a family friend showed her a few chords, and has been writing her songs with it ever since. She has enjoyed being in several bands, playing everything from the tin whistle and keyboards to lead guitar, as well as a viola player in the Deep River Symphony Orchestra. read more

Current Location: Berwick N.S.
Press Contact: My CD is available at Union St Cafe or you can Email me at seanpeori@gmail.com

Sean Peori has made a musical journey that spans the country.  Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to a family of Italian immigrant coal miners, Sean and his family moved to Deep River, Ontario when he was eight.  It was while growing up in Deep River that he discovered a passion for songwriting that he could not ignore.

"Find Our Place" is now available..listen

http://www.seanpeori.com/cd

Sean moved to Salt Spring Island BC and started performing in Vancouver and throughout the islands. It wasn’t long before his unique and powerful voice and songs caught the attention of Canadian pop icons Tom Hooper of the Grapes of Wrath and Matt Johnson of 54-40.  Sean recorded in Tom’s studio, meeting engineer Andy Bowmer, (Randy Bachman, Harry Manx, The Guess Who) along the way.  The songs that resulted from these sessions caught the attention of Deep River native Malcolm Burn, a Grammy Award winning producer (Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Blue Rodeo, Daniel Lanois).
In 2006 Malcolm opened his New York home studio to Sean for a weeklong recording session.  Sean’s beautiful songs took on new depth and colour as Australian pop sensation Sandrine and Malcolm himself added background vocals and instrumentation.
Later that year, Sean came full circle as he made his way back to Nova Scotia where he chanced upon a vibrant musical community in the Annapolis Valley. Coincidently Sean discovered that Andy Bowmer had moved there too, and was eager to get started on a project he could put his heart into. Sean has recently been featured on Indie Love Radio, FM 102X song of the day, and CBC radio 3 breaking new sound.
Sean’s new CD, Find Our Place, is now available.

‘Steal The Blue’

‘Steal The Blue’ is both a compelling collection of vocal and instrumental selections and the best portrait yet of April as a performing artist, while testifying to the esteem in which she’s held by Nashville’s bluegrass and roots musicians. The album features harmony vocals from Patty Mitchell, Melonie Cannon, Stephen Mougin, Jana Mougin, and includes songs from some familiar names: Tim Stafford, Steve Gulley, Craig Market, Sarah Siskind, Sarah Pirkle, Larry Cordle and John Hartford, as well as Mark Simos and Jon Weisberger.

April is also part of the group STRUNG, which brings together four names to conjure with in deep roots music these days – Doug Cox, Tony McManus, April Verch & Cody Walters – and while the words “power quartet” have not often been heard together in contemporary acoustic music, the times they still are a ‘changin’.

Ottawa Valley Fiddling and Step-dancing

While Nova Scotia's Cape Breton culture is famous for its Celtic brand of fast-paced fiddling and fancy footwork, the Ottawa Valley has developed its own distinctive category of old-time music and dance. In contrast to Cape Breton step-dancers, who keep their feet close to the floor and their arms straight to their sides, Ottawa Valley dancers step high, and incorporate arm movements in their choreography. Valley step-dancing is fast, energetic and fluid, requiring great coordination of legs, feet and ankles.

Where there are step-dancers, there are also fiddlers, playing jigs and reels. Get a feel for the Ottawa Valley style at the Annual Old Time Fiddling and Step Dancing Championships, held each year on Labour Day Weekend in the Upper Ottawa Valley community of Pembroke, Ontario. Set your own feet tapping to talented fiddlers and dancers of every age, and be sure not to miss the Saturday evening "playdowns," when the championship tempo reaches a fever pitch.
